How to Get Softer, Smoother, and Suppler Skin with Soft tissue fillers

As we age, the collagen and hyaluronic acid levels in our face tend to decrease. In other words, we get wrinkles.

As many of us involuntarily know firsthand, wrinkles can appear around the eyes, mouth, cheeks, jaw line, brow and nose.

Fortunately, soft tissue fillers can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The procedure, when done by a qualified dermatologist, results in plumper lips, softer and smoother skin, a lessened appearance of scars, and a greater volume on deep folds and shallow contours (e.g., hollow cheeks).

Before undergoing the procedure, here are a few things that you must know:

Types of Soft Tissue Fillers

Many soft tissue fillers are designed for different purposes. Your dermatologist may give you a selection of fillers to choose from, including:

  • Hyaluronic acid, the base for brands like Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm, is usually used in the temporary treatment of lines around the mouth (i.e., laugh lines), in the augmentation of thin lips, and in the elevation of depressed scars.
  • Calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse), which replenishes lost fullness and volume in the skin
  • Poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra), which stimulates natural collagen production

Your dermatologist will decide on the best type of soft tissue filler depending on the type and severity of your skin issues.

Before the Procedure
The preparatory steps include an initial medical consultations wherein your dermatologist will determine your:

  • Current physical condition
  • Medical history
  • Past dermatological treatments, such as facial shaping, facial rejuvenation, botox injections, and injectable fillers
  • Medications including supplements

Your dermatologist will also examine your skin as well as your skincare goals and desired results. Keep in mind that soft tissue fillers are designed as temporary measures to lessen the signs of aging, so repeated sessions will be required to keep the results.

During the Procedure

The procedure is routine and easy but your dermatologist will still adopt appropriate steps to lessen its risks and complications:

  • Your dermatologist will make points on your face to guide the injections.
  • Your face will be treated with ice, topical numbing agents, or local anesthetics to numb the injections and disinfect.
  • Your dermatologist will then inject the soft tissue filler using a tiny needle directly into the areas for treatment. You may or may not feel a burning or stinging sensation as the filler is injected.

Your dermatologist may recommend a series of treatment sessions depending on the severity of the problem. This is the case for deep wrinkles and depressed scars.

You may experience redness, swelling and minor bruising after the procedure but these are temporary. You can apply makeup to cover these effects and you can immediately go back to your normal activities.

And when these effects have subsided, you will enjoy smoother, suppler and softer skin that will make your family and friends smitten with your youthful appearance!
