Need some last-minute spontaneity? Then try any of the super healthy and super fun activities listed below, before summer ends!
Picnicking. A fresh meal + friends + Vitamin D? Yes, please! For best results, we recommend a peaceful spot on a lovely meadow, under the shady breeze of some murmuring cottonwood tree!
Going to the farmer’s market. The farmer’s market is another fun way to enjoy healthy food with family and friends. You may even discover a new favorite vegetable or homemade jam. Plus, you’ll be supporting local businesses.
Whale watching. Any time you are near or on the ocean, you are breathing in the sea breeze, which does more than just stir up childhood nostalgia: according to the Lung Institute, evidence shows that the salt in the air can actually help you breathe better. Oh, and the whales are really cool, too!
Paddle boarding. If you think it’s time to graduate from boogie boarding, but you’re not quite ready for surfing, then try paddle boarding. It’s great exercise, especially if you’re trying to build up muscle in your core!
Picking berries. What’s better than free, fresh strawberries? Free, fresh strawberries that you picked out yourself, while making memories with loved ones!
Building sand castles. If you are artsy, and looking for a creative outlet that you can share with your kids, try sand castles! The focus, body movements, and team collaboration it requires easily makes this one of the healthies activities you can do with your family.
Parasailing. Though it’s not for the faint of heart, parasailing can give you the most beautiful view of the ocean you’ll ever see.
Visiting an amusement park. Now that summer’s almost over, most kids are back in school – which means amusement parks won’t be at peak crowds. This is the perfect time to spend time with family, and get your steps in!
Outdoor grilling. Nothing says “summer” like outdoor grilling – though most of the time, it’s “cheat day” foods like hotdogs and burgers. End summer right with one final outdoor meal before the weather gets cold, but this time, serve chicken breast on whole wheat buns!
Hiking. Explore the Southern California you think you know – and get in some good exercise – by hiking a new path. Try a local hiking club, or get together with some friends. Happy trails!
