Wound Care: True or False

1.It is best to clean a wound with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol.
False: The best way to clean a minor wound is with cool running water and mild soap. For wounds that are deep, large, or bleeding nonstop, it is best to seek professional medical attention. Using hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol can harm the tissue and delay healing.

2. You should keep a wound moist.
True: By keeping the wound moist, it can help the wound heal faster and can help keep the bandages from sticking. Keeping the wound area clean and applying a thin layer of antibiotic ointment can help prevent infection.

3. A bandage is only used to keep air out of the wound.
False: A bandage can help protect the wound area from rubbing against clothing, dirt, or bacteria, which can help the wound heal faster. If you have a cut wound, a bandage can also help hold the edges of the cut together.
